How Voterexy could improve transparency

Future vision. This page describes how Voterexy could support future national elections in Papua New Guinea. Voterexy is an independent voting platform for organizations such as NGOs, churches and community groups. We are actively seeking approval from the Electoral Commission of Papua New Guinea and the Papua New Guinea Government; however, Voterexy is not currently affiliated with or endorsed by either, and is not used for official government elections.

The traditional use of physical ballot boxes and manual counting creates many single points of failure: missing or destroyed ballot boxes, vote miscount, duplicate voting, and intimidation — all erode public trust.

"During elections, voter ballot boxes have been known to be missing, sometimes stolen and on occasion destroyed... As a voter, one should reserve the right to see whether his or her vote is counted... Traceability and accountability must be a foundation of our elections."

Overview

Voterexy replaces fragile physical workflows with end‑to‑end verifiable processes and public result publication. By design, every recorded ballot receives a tamper‑evident audit trail and public read endpoints so stakeholders can independently verify tallies and confirm their vote was counted.

Problems addressed

  • No lost or destroyed ballot boxes — votes are recorded in a distributed, auditable ledger.
  • Prevents multiple voting and miscount through immutable identifiers and verification at write time.
  • Reduces voter intimidation by enabling secure remote or private voting flows with auditability.
  • Provides each voter with a means to confirm their vote was recorded — increasing confidence and turnout over time.

Transparency gain

Voterexy yields an illustrative improvement in observable transparency.
